Introduction To Pharmaceutical Quality Control Master

 

 

Introduction:

When pharmacy education mentioned in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, mentioned also the College of Pharmacy, King Saud University registration in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The study began at the College of Pharmacy in 1379 AH (1959 AD), King Saud University, in two years, and it is the third college in the order of foundation, with three faculty members 17 students. The first batch of students graduated in 1383 AH. As for the College of Pharmacy for Female Students, it was inaugurated in 1401 AH with eight female students and under the supervision of three female faculty members, and the first batch of female students graduated in 1406 AH.

During the sixty years of giving, the college focus on development, creativity and distinction in the following fields: the academic field, the research field, the professional field, and community awareness.

In the academic field, the college has achieved a noticeable development in curricula to keep pace with pharmacy sciences globally, so that the college has a degree as Doctor of Pharmacy, and in the field of graduate studies the college has seven master's programs and one of these Programs is the Master in Quality Control in Pharmacy. As for the research field, the college has made a huge step during its scientific research and has won the first places locally and in the Arab world.

Over the past sixty years, the College has made important and changes to reach a new structure for its academic and training programs to match the requirements of the Saudi labor market. This done because of the believe that the twenty-one is the century of the human brain with multiple skills and talents which deal with accurate modern technology and how to generate and organize information and the ability of use it in a way that enhances the efficiency of the comprehensive development that the Saudi society seeks.

The Master in Quality Control in Pharmacy, which was established in 1422 AH, and the Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistrym and Clinical Pharmacy Departments were responsible of preparing the plans of the programt, also they received a large share of interest to developing the program by the Program Board. Since its establishment, the program prepared pharmacists qualified with a master’s degree in the field of Quality of pharmaceutical preparations to work in All regions of the Kingdom and provide pharmaceutical and health services to citizens in all public and private sectors.

The Program Board worked to keep pace with the important changes that the College of Pharmacy marked to reach a new structure for its academic and training programs to suit the requirements of the Saudi labor market, through a set of short-term and long-term plans to reach the highes level of quality.

Due to the importance of the program and the high demand for it, a group of male and female students have been graduated, reaching (110) until the end of 2021, working in all sectors, as well as the quality and number of research published by the students of this program, which focus on the quality of the drug with a guarantee that it reaches the patient, preserving its quality, by controlling the methods of its manufacture and storing it in factories, following up the process of its arrival to the patient in hospitals and health centers, and monitoring its quality after marketing.

The importance and rationale for creating the program 

  1. The new program enriches students ’knowledge regarding drug quality supervision by focusing on the latest knowledge in the field of specialization.
  2. The new program is distinguished by adding updated courses and deleting courses in order to keep pace with recent developments in the field of quality control in pharmacy
  3. The new plan takes into account the qualification of highly qualified human cadres in the specialization of quality control, conducting scientific research and evaluating drug quality control programs, which contributes to providing solutions to the problems facing the pharmaceutical sector and all its workers.
  4. The new program is distinguished by that its standards are similar to most prestigious international programs in American, Canadian, British and Australian universities in the same specialization.

Admission Requirements:

In addition to the conditions for admission contained in the unified regulations for postgraduate studies in Saudi universities and the organizational and executive rules and procedures for postgraduate studies at King Saud University, the department requires the following for admission:

The Bachelor's degree must be from a Saudi university or from a non-Saudi university recognized in the country of study.

  1. The student must have a bachelor’s degree in pharmaceutical sciences or a doctor of pharmacy (Pharm.D.) With GPA of at least (3.25/5)
  2. The students have to obtain a score of no less than (475) in the (TOEFL) test or equivalent score
  3. The student attend the program written test.
