Herbal and Alternative Medicine Unit

Overview:

The College of Pharmacy is considered one of the first colleges to be established at King Saud University, where the study began in 1379 AH (1959 CE). Active and direct contribution to patient care, so the college was keen to provide a number of specialized units, including the herbal and alternative medicine unit. Despite the rapid progress witnessed by modern medicine, where every day brings something new at the scientific and technical levels, there is an accelerated return to herbal medicine, techniques and methods of alternative medicine, a return to authentic treatments and a distance from chemotherapy.

In one aspect, this return depends on the safety of natural products, including plants and medicinal herbs, created by God Almighty for the benefit of man, and the dangerous symptoms and complications that chemical drugs leave behind, which have negative effects on human health..

Organizations and bodies involved in herbal medicine, alternative and complementary medicine in all countries of the world have paid special and intensive attention to this aspect of medicine. Some international organizations such as the World Health Organization (WHO) and fao have held meetings on the subject, have taken care of regulations and laws governing the manufacturing, research and registration process for natural medicines and the legalization of the uses of this type of medicine, and a number of countries around the world have already begun to develop this type of treatment, particularly in Germany, France and then recently in America. Hence the idea of establishing the Herbal Medicine and Alternative Medicine Unit 1424H (2003) and its association with the Drug Department as the first unit of its kind in the Arab world.
