Ambulatory Care Postdoctoral Fellowship Program at King Saud University

The Ambulatory Care Postdoctoral Fellowship Program at the College of Pharmacy – King Saud University (KSU) is a 2-year program that offers academic, educational, and training opportunities to PharmD graduates in conjunction with King Saud University Medical City (KSUMC). A significant majority of the fellowship experience is spent between the College of Pharmacy and KSUMC to gain practical experience in a variety of ambulatory care services. The area of focus will be on ambulatory care research and clinical services. This program will allocate 70% of the fellow's time towards research with the aim of becoming capable of independently design and conduct clinical research in addition to preparing and publishing scientific papers, and 30% of the time will be spent working in ambulatory care services at KSUMC.


1.Fellowship Curriculum

 A.Research Projects

Ambulatory Care fellows will be working with faculty members on different types of research and projects throughout their fellowship training.


A minimum of one publication (poster/paper/article) in conjunction with a faculty member, either published or accepted for publication in an ISI journal, is a requirement for graduation.

C.Rotations and Courses

Accepted fellows in the ambulatory care fellowship program are expected to complete ambulatory care rotations in addition to specific didactic courses listed below. These courses are offered in collaboration with different colleges at KSU. In addition, the fellows are expected to cover ambulatory care services after finishing the required preparatory training. The didactic courses that should be completed during the first year of ambulatory care fellowship program include:

-Research Design

-Principles of Biostatistics

-Research Ethics and Scientific Writing

D.Seminar Activities

Ambulatory care fellows will participate in certain activities at the College of Pharmacy, including attending weekly Professional Development Seminars (PDS) and presenting several topics in the Professional Development program. The Professional Development series at the College of Pharmacy will be tailored to allow fellows to share and expand on areas of interest encountered during the course of the fellowship as well as to explore current events and challenges impacting various components of the pharmacy practice. Faculty, preceptors, fellows and guests participate in these informative and interactive seminars presented on a regular basis throughout the academic year.

E.Adjunct Faculty Appointment

All ambulatory care fellows will receive an adjunct faculty appointment at the KSU College of Pharmacy. Fellows have the opportunity to teach, develop, and coordinate courses, serve on various fellowship-related committees, conduct continuing education programs, participate in various projects, and attend networking opportunities.

Applicant Criteria

  1. Doctor of Pharmacy Degree or Equivalent
  2. Preferred General Pharmacy Practice Residency Accredited by Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) or American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) or higher.
  3. Good oral and written communication skills, ethics, and professionalism.
  4. Valid registration by the SCFHS
  5. Demonstrated interest in or an aptitude for a career in research
