Over the past decade, the alarming increase in healthcare expenditures in general and in pharmaceutical expenditures in particular has prompted many governments and health care providers worldwide to demand the use of economic evaluations (i.e., pharmacoeconomic studies) of healthcare products and services. Pharmacoeconomics is an innovative method that aims to decrease health expenditures, meanwhile optimizing healthcare results. In Saudi Arabia, where the cost of healthcare is also growing rapidly, the need for a specialized center that conducts this kind of research becomes very important especially when no such center exists. The main goal is to make the center a prime source for Pharmacoeconomic studies and outcomes in Saudi Arabia and in the gulf region.
